Sebren era begins at FPHS by Rod Elrod - posted Tuesday, May 22nd, 2007 @ 10:49 am Wossman got the best of the Franklin Parish Patriots in a scrimmage held at Patriot Stadium to mark the end of spring football drills.
But new Patriot coach Barry Sebren saw some things he liked.
"The kids were hitting," Sebren said, "and they played with a lot of enthusiasm. But we need a lot of work. There's no question about that."
Sebren said the Patriot defense was ahead of the offense at this point.
"The offense hasn't jelled yet," Sebren said. "We've got a new offense and a lot of new offensive players. We weren't engaging on the offensive line, which makes it tough to run your offense."
Sebren viewed the scrimmage as a test.
"We wanted to see where we were, and now we know what we need to work on," he said. "The good thing was that we had a lot of players in the right positions. They were in position to make plays."
The Patriots fielded just over 30 players for the scrimmage.
"We need to keep the kids we have and get some more kids to come out," Sebren said. "But the scrimmage was a good thing. There was a lot of excitement on the field, and I believe there is a group of kids who were watching what was going on. They are waiting and watching, and I believe they will buy into what we are trying to do.
"We're going to build a winning program. There is no real mystery to what we are doing. We are working with things that are tried and true. We made a lot of mistakes, but we will get better."
