Bethany Allyce Blackson is Franklin Parish's 12th Grade Student of the Year.

Bethany is the daughter of Kenneth and LaTanga Blackson and will graduate from Franklin Parish High School this week, capping a school career that has been filled with scholastic, leadership and community accomplishments.

Bethany's large, close-knit family has provided a wealth of role models.

"My parents, grandparents and aunt are all role models to me," she said. "My parents are my rock. When everything around me seems to crumble and fall, they are always there to lift me. My grandparents sacrificed so that I could be where I am today. And my Aunt Elsie Majors taught me to look at the good things in life and not let negativity hinder my growth as a person."

Blackson said her relationship with God is the most important thing to her and she is a very active member of Augusta Missionary Baptist Church.

"Managing school, work, dance practices, basketball, church and spending time with family and friends can be a very strenuous job," Bethany said. "But I know with God nothing is too hard to achieve."

Bethany has also managed a job at City Court, which has influenced her career aspirations.

"I love children and I believe I have a calling in my life to help them in my chosen career as a lawyer."

Working at City Court has also opened her eyes to the lack of role models in the lives of some youths.

"I believe that if adults would be true examples of kindness and moral decency, our youth will have a better outlook on life."

Bethany's leadership skills are evident by looking through her extra-curricular activities: president of the Beta Club, Future Business Leaders and Senior Class, reporter for the Louisiana FBLA, president of the Augusta Baptist Youth Choir, captain of the Patriots' basketball team, co-captain of the Sparklers dance team, homecoming queen and Franklin Parish Junior Miss.

She said she realizes "time is precious," and Bethany seems determined to make the most of every minute.
