Deep South Rodeo celebrates 50 years by Rod Elrod - posted Tuesday, July 24th, 2007 @ 12:06 pm The Deep South Rodeo has been a part of Franklin Parish life for 50 years, now.
Jeff Moore, president of the Deep South PRCA Rodeo Committee, wants to make this 50th anniversary show one of the best ever.
"We want to recognize and remember those men and women who have been so instrumental in helping this rodeo flourish and prosper," Moore said. "We've got a good group of volunteers right now, but there were a lot of people who came before us."
One sure way to have a good rodeo is to partner with a good stock contractor.
"And we've got one of the best in Scotty Lovelace and Classic Pro Rodeo," Moore said.
Headquartered in Waskom, Texas, Lovelace was named PRCA Stock Contractor of the Year in 2003, and he was nominated for that prestigious award again in 2006.
"They will bring in some great bucking stock, and they will put on a first class show," Moore said. "It's fast-paced fun and good entertainment for the entire family.
The Deep South PRCA Rodeo will open a 3-day run on Thursday, Aug. 2, preceded by a rodeo parade at 4 p.m.
Rodeo performances will begin at 8 p.m.
Advance tickets are now on sale at Dennis Crain Dodge and Sullivan's Feed and Western Wear.
Rodeo action will begin this weekend with a kids' rodeo set for Friday and Saturday nights.
Sign-up will open at 6 p.m. on both nights, with rodeo action set to begin at 7 p.m.
