TEACHER OF THE YEAR RECOGNITION, WILEY MCCLARY Mr. Wiley McClary recognized and introduced the school's Teacher of the Year and the Franklin Parish Teachers of the Year. The schools Teacher of the Year are, Debbie Jackson, Baskin School, George Arendar, Baskin School, Kathy Ellerbe, Baskin School, Justin Colvin, Crowville School, Leslie Hunt, Gilbert School, and Sandy Rigdon, Gilbert School. A plaque and monetary award was presented to the Parish Teachers of the Year. The parish winners are Kasey King from Crowville School, elementary Teacher of the Year, Delasber Griffin from Fort Necessity School, middle school Teacher of the Year and Elaine Netherland from Franklin Parish High School, high school Teacher of the Year. Ms. Griffin also won Regional Teacher of the Year. The monetary award was donated by Kelly Martin of Martin Brothers. President Eddie Ray Bryan offered congratulations from Franklin Parish School Board. RECOGNITION OF STUDENTS FOR GEE & LEAP ADVANCED SCORES Mrs. Delayne Donnell recognized students and presented plaques for students who scored advanced on GEE and LEAP test. Superintendent Lanny Johnson read a letter from state superintendent Paul Pastorek congratulating our district and schools for having earned these designations. Mr. Eddie Ray Bryan offered his congratulations to the students and parents for all their hard work. This change in program description is for a 4 day school week. Ninety-nine percent of the parents approved of this program change. This program change will be for the 2010-2011 school year only. This program will take place November 1st, if approved from the Dallas regional office. Things are going well at Head Start. Daily average attendance is at 98.5%. Federal monitors are in the parish. Monitors reported that no new money will be available for next school year. MOTION TO APPROVE THE PARISH BUS POLICY ORDINANCE # 2010-10-0005 BE IT ORDAINED, ETC., the Franklin Parish School Board approve the Parish Bus Policy for Franklin Parish Schools as written. Parish Bus Policy Franklin Parish School Board prohibits any school bus operating on a designated route from travelling on any road not maintained by city/town, parish or state entity. Extenuating circumstance may be determined by the Board if needed. If a school bus does travel on a private road, the landowner shall be required to sign an affidavit assuming all liability for the bus. This lease will be effective from March 31, 2011 to March 31, 2021. The amount of lease is $2,409.50 per year. Mr. Hill provided documentation of improvements made by him in the amount of $3,100.00. This includes taking down the old poles and lights and replace them with new poles and lights. Each board member will need to undergo 6 hours of inservice. This school year the schools will have a Fall Break, October 29 - Nov. 1, 2010. Election day is on Tuesday, November 2nd. We have four schools involved in voting being done at the schools. The location where the voting booths are located will not be in the student's way. Schools will be in attendance on November 2, 2010. PRESIDENT'S REPORT President Eddie Ray Bryan reported congratulations to Franklin Parish High School football team. Homecoming is Friday, October 8th against Bastrop. Mr. Bryan mentioned that people have complained about not being greeted properly at the front receptionist desk.
