Mayor, Council continue budget quarrel

Over three weeks have passed since the Winnsboro City Council rejected mayor Jackie Johnson's first proposed budget for the upcoming fiscal year. Despite several emergency finance committee meetings and alterations to the original budget last week, the Council and Johnson still seem to have a canyon-like riff separating their views on how the city's funds should be spent.

Some members of City Council say they will not adopt the mayor's budget simply because it shows more money leaving the city than it does coming in. Councilman Craig Gill voiced his opposition at a special called meeting last Tuesday at the mayor's office.
