Robert L. Barton Jr.
Funeral services for Robert Lavee Barton Jr., 53, of Cotton Valley, La., were held at Young's Community Memorial Funeral Home on Monday, May 5, 2008 with Rev. Mark Akares and Rev. Michael Whitman officiating. Interment followed at Legion Memorial Cemetery under the direction of Young's Community Memorial Funeral Home in Winnsboro.
Mr. Barton was born July 11, 1954 in Newellton, and passed away Saturday, May 3, 2008 at Minden Medical Center in Minden. He was a resident of Cotton Valley and a member of the Baptist faith.
He was preceded in feath by his father, Robert Lavee Barton, Sr.; maternal grandparents: William and Lillie Del Rio; paternal grandparents: Mathew and Sarah Jane Barton.
Survivors include his mother, Ada Bernice (Del Rio) Barton; five sisters: Patsy Jean Wallace, Tina Renee Page, and Terri Deanna Spivey, all of Columbia, Brenda K. Skipper of Olla; Sherri Diane Ferguson of Monroe.

Harvey 'Shorty' L. Laird
Harvey "Shorty" L. Laird, 74, of Kirbyville, Texas, died Monday, April 21, 2008 at his home due to cancer.
Funeral services were at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, April 26, 2008 at Young's Community Memorial Funeral Home in Winnsboro with Rev. Stacey Givens and Rev. Keith Jeselink officiating. Burial followed in Chase Cemetery with full military honors.
Shorty was born on June 6, 1933 in Chase, La., the son of Calvin Luther Laird and Beulah Terry.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Calvin and Beulah; two brothers, Calvin Joseph "C.J." and Luther Lee; five sisters, Azie Lee, Marie, Edna, Christine, and Donnis.
Survivors include wife of 54 years, Mary Helen Vines, Kirbyville, Texas; two sons, Harvey Glenn of Kirbyville, Texas, Michael Lynn and wife Roxie of Rigby, Idaho; two granddaughters, Mary Jill and husband Michael Daniels and Jamie Lynn; one grandson, Jason Lee; one great granddaughter, Jordon "Sweetpea" Allysse Laird, all of Longmont, Colo.; one sister, Hazel Simons of Dallas, Texas; numerous nieces and nephews.
Mr. Laird was retired from U.S.A.F. and Temple Timber Co. after 21 years of service in each. Shorty was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed fishing and hunting.
The family is honored to have our United States Military present as pallbearers.
Mary and family appreciate all the love and support they have received from family and friends during Shorty's illness.

Marie Pia Zaldivar
Funeral services for Maria Pia Zaldivar, 70, of Minden, were held Monday at St. Paul Catholic Church, Minden with Father Rothel Price officiating.
Graveside services were held at Wiggers Family Cemetery in Fort Necessity.
Mrs. Zaldivar passed away Friday, May 2, 2008 in Minden. She was preceded in death by her grandmother, Luisa Matta; and her parents, Antonio and Maria Luisa Serrano.
She is survived by her husband, Jorge Zaldivar, Minden; sons: Jorge Antonio Zaldivar and wife Lori Ann of Minden; Andres Zaldivar and wife Carrie Ann of Dubberly; daughters: Maria Pia Cooper and husband, Michael of Marietta, Ga.; Maria Luisa (Mary) Avery and husband Danny Kay of Minden; and Alejandra Wiggers and husband Rusty of Fort Necessity; grandchildren: Nicholas Cody Avery, Spencer Heard, Christopher Michael Cooper, Alexander Cristian Avery, Taylor Ann Zaldivar, Russ Bonner Wiggers, Zachary Tyler Zaldivar, Colby Phillip Zaldivar, Jorge Evan Wiggers, and Jorge Connar Zaldivar.
Pallbearers were Nicholas Cody Avery, Bruce Braton, Drew Lewis, Jimmy McBride, Pat Payton, Jason Rodgers, Greg Shepherd and Don Smith.
Mrs. Zaldivar was always the faithful and loving wife, mother and grandmother, putting God and family above all else. She was a proud lover of animals and those in need of rescue. She helped so many by her caring example of kindness and charity, doing whatever was needed, no matter what. She will forever remain in our hearts and prayers. She was a member of St. Paul Catholic Church in Minden.
Memorials may be made to The Minden Humane Society or St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.

Dean Holmes
Funeral services for Dean Holmes, 68, of Gilbert, were held at the Apostolic Faith Chapel in Gilbert on Saturday, May 3, 2008 with Rev. Virgil Harris and Rev. Curtis Harris officiating. Interment followed at Oakley Cemetery under the direction of Young's Community Memorial Funeral Home in Winnsboro.
Mrs. Holmes was born Oct. 8, 1939 in Monroe, and passed away Thursday, May 1, 2008 at Plantation Oaks Nursing Home in Wisner. She was a resident of Gilbert, a homemaker, and a member of the Apostolic Faith Chapel in Gilbert.
She was preceded in death by her mother-Sarah (Wallace) Williamson; father-Jessie Williamson; sisters: Inez Arnold, Marie Williamson, Juanita Marlet, Jessie May Johns, Georgie Johnston and Frances Cobb.
Survivors include four daughters: Lorie Ezell of Gilbert; Penny Lemoine and husband John of Wisner; Tammy Murphy and husband Charles of Hebert, La.; Kathy Williamson of Gilbert, LA; sister, Annette Robinson of Winnsboro; numerous nieces and nephews and friends.
She was also survived by 11 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers were Deshay Roberts, Greg Stephens, Charles Lee Murphy, David Frith, Bradley Frost, and Tater Robinson.
Honorary Pallbearers were Stevie Stephens, Maverick Lemoine, Stoney Williamson, Jimmy Berry, and Ernie Ezell.

Thelma Waller
Funeral services for Thelma Waller, 90, of Winnsboro, were held at Young's Community Memorial Funeral Home on Thursday, May 1, 2008, with Rev. Frances Guy and Rev. Marshall Thomas officiating. Interment followed at Myrtle Memorial Cemetery under the direction of Young's Community Memorial Funeral Home in Winnsboro.
Mrs. Waller was born Aug. 29, 1917 in Benton, Ark. and passed away Tuesday, April 29, 2008 at Plantation Manor Nursing Home in Winnsboro. She was a resident of Winnsboro, the owner and operator of a skating rink, and a member of the First Baptist Church in Winnsboro.
She was preceded in death by: husband-Hiram Butler Waller; parents-Calvin and Letha Young; son-Ralph Waller; brother-J. C. Young; two sisters: Louise Magee and Ruth Pritchard.
Survivors include: two daughters: Betty Montgomery and Judy Everett both of Monroe; and seven grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren.

Lonnie D. Wilford
Funeral services for Lonnie D. Wilford, 84, of Wisner were held Saturday, May 3, 2008 at Holly Grove Baptist Church with the Rev. Nolan Mock officiating.
Burial followed in the church cemetery under the direction of Richardson and Sims Funeral Home of Winnsboro.
Mr. Wilford died Saturday, April 26, 2008 at Citizens Medical Center in Columbia.
Survivors include seven daughters: Susie Mae Sowell, Baton Rouge; Dorothy Wilford, Jennett Wilford, Jolynn Blanson, all of Wisner; Marjorie Matthews, Winnsboro; Erma Major, Gilbert; Linda Cole, Statesville, NC; four sons: Lionel Plain, Wisner; Ricky Plain, Fayette, Miss.; Johnny Ray Plain, Monroe; Louis Edward Wilford, Statesville, NC; two step-sons: Charles Bennett, Davenport, Fla.; Jermone Bethley, Atlanta, Ga.; one sister, Elouise Wilford, Wisner; one brother, Lenard Wilford, Oakland, Calif.; 12 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.

Jessie Lee Free Whitten
Funeral services for Jessie Lee Free Whitten, 92, of Natchez will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, May 8, 2008 at Laird Funeral Home in Natchez.
Burial will be at Green Lawn Memorial Park in Natchez.
Mrs. Whitten died Sunday, May 4, 2008 in Natchez. She was born in Bienville Parish in 1915 to Henry Joseph and Josie Mathews Free, a long-time resident of Natchez where she raised her three children with her husband Calvin Benton Whitten (1912-1993). Her extended family remembers her as a strong woman, always with a meal cooked after a day's work. She greatly enjoyed caring for her family, reading history, gardening, fishing, sewing, crocheting and traveling. Mrs. Whitten worked as a nurse assistant at Natchez Regional Medical Center form its beginning in 1960 until her retirement in 1984. She was a member of Morgantown Baptist Church.
She is survived by her children: Joyce Whitten McManus, Natchez; Gerald Whitten, Houston, Texas; and Elaine Whitten Thomas, Gulf Breeze, Fla.; grandchildren: Terry Whitten, Stark, Fla.; Sharese Hartley, Jacksonville, Fla.; Lori Barlow, Brandon, Miss.; Mark McManus, Flowood, Miss.; Elizabeth Thomas, Madison, Miss.; and Sarabeth Gordon, New Orleans; and nine great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, seven brothers and one sister.
Visitation will begin at 12:30 on Thursday at the funeral home.
