Patriots scrimmage Friday at Wossman

Franklin Parish High completes spring football drills this week with a scrimmage at Wossman in Monroe on Friday.

Franklin Parish, Wossman and Ferriday will scrimage each other in contests beginning at 5 p.m.

"We'll get a chance to see how well we can do what we've practiced," said Franklin Parish head coach Barry Sebren. "Everything we've done on the practice field, we have to execute on the playing field."

Sebren has close to 50 players out for spring.

"It's gone real well," he said. "We still don't have a lot of depth and we're still looking for some players to step up, but that's what spring is for. We've got some positions to look at, especially quarterback, which is huge for us."

Sebren said he will take a close look at some younger players.

"Some of these guys have not even played at all, so we need to see if football is really the sport for them," he said. "We want to see how they react in a game. I also think we'll be better defensively, so I'm looking for some improvement there."

Sebren said his team will have to be more physical in the scrimmage.

"We're kind of a finesse team because we're not that big and physical," he said. "But we can't be all finesse when we're out there in a game. We have to be able to deliver a blow at some point. That's what we'll be looking for, as well."
