Drug sweep results in 20 arrests On Thursday an early morning drug sweep called "Operation Spring Cleaning," resulted in law enforcement taking 20 suspected drug dealers into custody and caused several more to either flee the parish or get off of the streets, according to chief Franklin Parish Sheriff's Deputy Kevin Cobb.
"A total of 59 warrants were issued in the drug roundup," Cobb said. "Twenty were arrested and several of the warrants were for people already in jail. We are still looking for about 10 more."
Sheriff Steve Pylant praised the work of the narcotics division, under the direction of Kevin Bass and Jeff Wright, who coordinated the sweep.
"This investigation has been going on for eight months and several others have been arrested during this period," the sheriff said.
Through tips, investigation and traffic stops, deputies have prevented narcotics from entering the parish.
"This work shows just how successful the division has been in apprehending these dealers," Pylant said.
The warrants were issued for a range of charges, including possession and distribution of cocaine, marijuana, ecstasy and methamphetamines.
"Most of these are street-level narcotics dealers," Cobb said. "Several of the warrants executed were for individuals with multiple charges."
The raids came before dawn on Thursday, with assistance from the Winnsboro Police Department.
"We always work well with Winnsboro and appreciate their help," Cobb said. "The warrants were for people in the city and in the parish.
"I commend all of the law enforcement who participated in this effort," the sheriff said.
Cobb said members of the community could help law enforcement, "As always, we rely on the public for some of the best information on where we can find these people," he said.
