Black Heritage Quiz Bowl The fourth Black Heritage Quiz Bowl was held Saturday, Feb. 23, 2008, at Winnsboro Second Baptist Church. This event is sponsored annually by the Black Heritage Organization with Grace Blount serving as quiz bowl coordinator and Zettie Dorsey as quiz bowl moderator.
This year, five churches throughout Franklin Parish anticipated in the event: New Hope Baptist Church, True Gospel Baptist Church, Winnsboro Second Baptist Church, True Light Baptist Church and King Jesus Worship Center. Included in the quiz bowl program was a segment for audience participation. For this portion of the program, adults were given opportnities to test their knowledge on "black facts." Rev. Herman Harris presided over this segment by acknowledging participants with the correct answers. It was enjoyed by those present for the events.
The winners for the 2008 quiz bowl were, Winnsboro Second Baptist Church taking first place and $50 savings bond for each team member. True Light Baptist Church placed second and third place went to King Jesus Worship Center. Mable L. Thomas, president of the Black Heritage Organization, presented the awards and certificates to the participants.
Serving as judges, scorekeepers and team registrars were Earlene Walker, Valencia Thomas, Georgia Knox, Ruth Washington and Jacqueline Johnson, all of Winnsboro, Laquetta Barnes of Wisner, Bertha Brass of Gilbert and Juanita Walker of Clinton, Miss.
The quiz bowl is sponsored annually by the Black Heritage Organization and the site of the event will be rotated for each year's event. True Gospel Baptist Church will host the event in 2009. |
