Sheriff warns: stay out of fields Wheat fields are property and damage to them can result in arrest and criminal prosecution, according to Franklin Parish Steve Pylant.
"We've had several complaints of people driving trucks or four-wheelers into wheat fields and causing damage to the crops," Pylant said said. "People need to know they will be arrested for trespassing and criminal damage to property when they are caught."
"Also, those prosecuted will be ordered to pay restitution for the estimated damage to the crops," he said.
Pylant said people should stay out of all fields unless they have written permission to be there.
"Farmers have their livelihoods in those fields and that needs to be respected," the sheriff said.
Pylant asked that citizens participate in monitoring for trespassing in farm fields.
"If you see someone where they should not be, get a description of the vehicle, where it is and call our office. Let a deputy go out and investigate," he said.
The phone number to the Franklin Parish Sheriff's Office is 318-435-4505. |
