The second annual Warhawk Triathlon was held Saturday, March 15 at the University of Louisiana at Monroe starting at the Lake C. Oxford Natatorium.

Along with 83 participant from six states, John and Shirley Leeper of Winnsboro competed in the sprint triathlon which consisted of an indoor 400-meter swim, an 11-mile bike course through the streets near ULM, and a 3-mile run through the ULM campus.

Shirley, a fitness technician at Curves, was the oldest female to compete in the triathlon, which entitled her to a first place medal in the female 50 to 54-age division.

John came in forth in the male 55 to 60-age division.

Ben Hall, 17, of Ruston was the first place all around male winner and first place all around female winner was Katie White, 39, of Monroe.

The race was made possible by dozens of ULM student volunteers, and race coordinator, marathon runner and triathlete, Brian Coyne of Ruston, organized the event.
