Story Archives: Bridge closed at Jigger

Bridge closed at Jigger

The Lousiana Depart-ment of Transportation and Development is replacing an old bridge on Hwy. 128 in Jigger. The bridge is expected to be reopened on May 30, provided there are no delays.

"A state crew is doing the work," said Monty Bradley of LDTD. "If there are no emergencies that would pull them off this job, they should be finished on time."

The old timber bridge over Turkey Creek was built in 1955, according to Bradley. The work is part of a state bridge replacement program.

On Monday at the bridge – which is located about one-half mile from the caution light at Jigger – the road crew was breaking up asphalt and dumping it into a truck. The timbers were showing where they had been under the asphalt.

Assistant foreman Danny Conde said they would tear out the five, 19-foot wooden spans and replace them with six concrete spans. Sixty-foot steel beams will support the new bridge.

Detours are Dummy-line Road and La. Hwy. 4 to Hwy. 128 or Hwy. 15 to Hwy. 128.
