Renewal tax set for July Members of the Franklin Parish School Board voted unanimously at its March meeting to place the renewal of a 4.45 mill property tax on the July 19 ballot. Voters in Franklin Parish renewed the 4.45 millage four years ago.
"This is not a new tax," said Superintendent Lanny Johnson, "this is a millage tax that's been renewed through the years since before 1940. We'd like to have it renewed for ten years as opposed to five, because it seems we're having to vote on a renewal tax every two or three years."
The current millage expires on December 31, 2008. According to Rod Elrod of the Franklin Parish Tax Assessors Office, the millage raised just under $240,000 for the school district in 2007.
School board members voting for the renewal included Eddie Ray Bryan, Dorothy Brown, Richard Kelly, Ronnie Hatton, Jesse Young and Tim Eubanks.
