Story Archives: Soules steps down as Cougars coach

Soules steps down as Cougars coach
by David Folse - posted E-mail Story E-mail Story | Print Story Print Story
There will be a new head football coach at Franklin Academy as Cougars Head Coach Jason Soules gave Franklin Academy notice a week ago that he will not be returning to the school as the football coach.

Reports indicate that Soules will be heading back home as he will head to Heidelberg Academy's football program in some capacity

"Jason is no longer the football coach for Franklin Academy," Cougars Athletic Director Phil Jackson said this past week. "He came in Wednesday morning and that is when everything happened. He has found another job. Several other schools have contacted him and he has decided to accept one of them that happened to be in his hometown and where he came from.

"He has given us a month notice and we are beginning the process of finding his replacement."

Jackson said that he was somewhat surprised that Soules decided to leave the Cougar program.

"I guess you could say that I am surprised and I am not surprised," Jackson said. "You could almost say that I'm about 50-50. I am kind of surprised a little bit that he would leave this late in the year but at the same time when I found out where the job was located I knew beyond a shadow of a doubt that this was a career move for him that he was just going to have to take."

Not even beginning the process yet to hire a new leader for the football program, Jackson said that things will start to come in place quickly and the process for finding a new head coach will begin soon.

"Right now we really have not done anything in terms of finding a replacement," Jackson said. "There is a school board meeting that was scheduled for Monday night and we are also going to talk to the booster club who has a big hand in what we do.

"We are going to start this process from ground zero. We are going to advertise for it and make some calls to some people that may be available for us to have take over."
