As the curtain fell behind an exciting evening of lively entertainment and lovely competition, two Franklin Parish Juniors were selected as winners in the 2009 Junior Miss scholarship program held at the Winnsboro Elementary Auditorium.

After the participants were evaluated in several categories including scholastic, interview, fitness, talent and self-expression, Franklin Parish High School student, Mary Kate Guimbellot and Franklin Academy student, Janna Wilson were chosen by a selection panel as co-representatives for the parish and recipients of a $1000 scholarship each to the college of their choice. Guimbellot was honored with the Mother's Club Community Service and Junior Miss Scholastic Award and received an additional $550 in scholarship awards. Wilson won the Spirit of Junior Miss and fitness awards and received an additional $250 in scholarship awards. Both young ladies will go on to represent Franklin Parish at Louisiana's Junior Miss program to be held July 26 at Coughlin Saunders Performing Arts Center in Alexandria.

Betsy Ann Lowe, daughter of Wes and Lisa Lowe, won the talent category with her performance of Chopin's "Polonaise in A Major" and received a $250 scholarship. Franklin Academy junior Katelyn McManus won the interview and self-expression divisions of the program and received a total of $400 in scholarship awards.

Emcees for the evening were Leigh Jonson, producer and director of the local Junior Miss program, along with special guests, former FPJMs Erin Brooks, Samantha Shipman and Mindi Roberson. Louisiana's Junior Miss Lauren McCalmont also assisted with the evening as well as providing special entertainment. To complete the "Saturday Night Fever" theme, John Travolta (Bill Jonson) made a special appearance to entertain the audience.
