Story Archives: 'Taste of Franklin' spaces filling fast

'Taste of Franklin' spaces filling fast
by Michael DeVault - posted E-mail Story E-mail Story | Print Story Print Story
Franklin Parish restaurants, eateries, and individuals who are interested in participating in the annual "Taste of Franklin" food festival are being encouraged to sign up quickly, as booth space is becoming scarce.

Event organizer Lindy Price said people who want to showcase their talents should book the space now.

"We urge anyone interested in participating in the "Taste of Franklin" either as a featured chef, a contestant in the Catfish Cookoff or someone just wanting to enjoy the festivities to contact the Chamber as soon as possible," Price said.

The fifth annual "Taste of Franklin" is scheduled for Tuesday, March 11 beginning at 6 p.m. at the United Pentecostal Church Family Life Center in Winnsboro and promises to be bigger and better than ever.

This year's "Taste of Franklin" is sponsored by the Winnsboro-Franklin Chamber of Commerce, the Franklin Parish Catfish Festival and Franklin Parish Tourism.

The event features local and area chefs, restaurants, caterers, and entrepreneurs who prepare their signature dishes for the public.

In conjunction with the "Taste of Franklin," event-sponsor the Catfish Festival will hold its annual Catfish Cookoff.

"We've had a lot of fun with this event the last three years, and we're certainly pleased to do it again this year in conjunction with the Chamber's "Taste of Franklin," which is such a popular event," said Catfish Festival director Paul Price Jr.

Entry in the Catfish Cookoff is open to any non-professional cook living in or working in Franklin Parish, and is limited to the first 15 entrants. The Catfish Festival will provide five pounds of Louisiana pond-raised catfish for each entrant, and the fish can be prepared "any way but fried," Paul Price said.

"The only exception to the 'no-fry' rule is if the fried fish fillet is served with a topping of some sort," he said.

Those interested in participating in the "Taste of Franklin" should contact the Chamber office at 435-4488 for registration and ticket information as soon as possible.

Tickets are $15 and are limited in number, so those interested in an "all-you-can-taste" evening featuring delicious Franklin Parish food should contact the Chamber office as soon as possible.
