Two bandits nabbed in armed robberies
by Michael DeVault - posted E-mail Story E-mail Story | Print Story Print Story
Two men are behind bars and warrants have been issued for two others in connection with a string of robberies in the town of Wisner and Catahoula Parish.

Ronnie Cooper, 18 of Winnsboro, and Derius Jordan, 21 of Sicily Island, were arrested in Concordia Parish following a botched robbery at a convenience store.

Franklin Parish chief deputy Kevin Cobb said investigators compared notes from the Concordia incident with robberies in Wisner and just across the parish line in Catahoula Parish.

"We received information about the attempted robbery in Concordia Parish," Cobb said. "After comparing the two cases, it turned out to be related to the incidents in Franklin and Catahoula parishes."

Cooper and Jordan were booked into the Franklin Parish Correctional Center on one count each of armed robbery. Cobb said warrants have also been issued for two other men, though he declined to reveal the identities of the other suspects.

Sometime around 6 a.m. Thurs., Jan. 24, three men approached Ford Food Center manager Russell Johnson, who had stepped into an alley behind the store. After the men failed to gain entry into the store, they held Johnson to the ground and stole approximately $300.

Later in the morning, the same group of men robbed Big Dan's Saloon.

Cobb said the men are being held in the Franklin Parish Correctional Center and he expected charges would be filed in Catahoula Parish for the Big Dan's hold-up as well.

No arraignment date has been set for Cooper and Jordan.
