Tough 0-2 week for Franklin Academy girls basketball It was a tough week for the Franklin Academy Lady Cougars as they dropped a pair of games, falling to Rebul, 53-49 and WCCA, 44-30.
Franklin Academy will look to get back on the winning track this week when they play host to Tensas on Tuesday before wrapping up the regular season at Tallulah on Thursday.
WCCA 44, Franklin Academy 30
A game closer than the score indicates; Franklin Academy fell to WCCA on Friday night by a score of 44-30.
Katy Little led the Lady Cougars with 17 points but was the only double-digit scorer on the night for Franklin Academy.
A 28-28 game with two minutes remaining, the Lady Cougars had their shot at the end to come away with a win, but foul trouble plagued them to go along with an offense that only managed two points over the final two minutes of regulation.
"I thought our team played extremely hard," Lady Cougars Head Coach Mike Kramer said. "Our lack of depth just caught up with us in the end as we had a pair of players foul out and didnít have anyone with less than four fouls. They (WCCA) shot 30 free throws and we shot only 10 free throws.
"I only have an eight-man squad to begin with so those last two minutes we just didnít really have any depth when it was needed the most. We turned the ball over too much and couldnít score. That is why the score exploded like it did those last two minutes for WCCA."
Rebul 53, Franklin Academy 39
Too many turnovers in key situations were the difference Tuesday night as Rebul defeated the Lady Cougars of Franklin Academy, 53-39.
Little lead Franklin Academy with 18 points in the win for the Lady Cougars.
A three-point game at the half, Rebul pulled away in the second half to put the game out of reach.
"We played well for the first quarter but in the end it was just too many turnovers on our part," Kramer said. "They (Rebul) kind of changed up their defense from a full-court press to a half court trap and we just struggled trying to deal with it.
"On a positive note, we did handle their pressure well early on. We had struggled against that all season long, but we had only one turnover against their full-court press. We also balanced out our scoring. We had multiple players looking to score the basketball but couldn't convert."
and that kept the game close early on." |
