Cougars avenge lone district loss
by David Folse - posted E-mail Story E-mail Story | Print Story Print Story
It was a good week for the Franklin Academy boyís basketball team as the Cougars defeated Rebul on Tuesday night, 65-46 and WCCA on Friday night 60-43.
Franklin Academy will wrap up the regular season this week as they host Tensas on Tuesday night before their regular season finale against Tallulah on Thursday night

Franklin Academy 60, WCCA 43
Behind 18 points from Darren Collie, Franklin Academy extracted some revenge on WCCA with a 60-43 win on Friday night.
Collie led the Cougars with 18 points and Caleb haring added 14. Shelby Zeagler also chipped in with a double-double of his own, pulling down 13 rebounds to go along with 12 points.
A close game for the first 24 minutes, Franklin Academy headed into the final quarter up three before pulling away to win the game in a convincing fashion.
"Our depth really took over in the final quarter," Franklin Academy Head Coach Phil Jackson said. "You could kind of say that we were playing for a little bit of revenge in this game. They (WCCA) are the only team in our district that has beaten us thus far this season.
"That (first matchup) was our first game back after the Christmas break and we were a little rusty. They were just in better condition than we were so it was nice to come away with a win the second time around."

Franklin Academy 65, Rebul 46
In a game that was all but put to rest after the first half, the Cougars defeated Rebul on Tuesday night, 65-46.
Collie led the Cougars with a game-high 23 points and Zeagler added 11 in the winning effort.
Up by 25 after the first two quarters, Franklin Academy was able to rest their starters for most of the second half and play several of their bench players.
"We came out and jumped on them pretty early on," Jackson said. "We had a double-digit lead after the first quarter and the game was never really close after that. We shot the ball pretty well and were able to couple that with some good defensive stops in the game. It really seems like our kids are getting really close to peaking right now and this is the perfect time for this to happen as we approach the post-season.
"Our half-court defense allowed us to force several turnovers in the game which lead to some easy baskets. The effort was really evident for us in this game on both sides of the court and allowed us to come away with a win."
