Patriots top Sicily Island in short week It was a short week for the Franklin Parish boyís basketball team as they had only one game due to inclimate weather that forced the cancellation of their game against Bastrop on Friday. The Patriots defeated Sicily Island this past Tuesday by a 60-51 score. Returning to district play this week, the game against the Rams has been rescheduled for February 7th and Senior Day is set for February 5th against Carroll.
Franklin Parish 60, Sicily Island 51 Venturing outside the friendly confines of district play, the Franklin Parish Patriots picked up a 60-51 win over Sicily Island last Tuesday in a game where the final score was not indicative of the game itself. Junior JC led the Patriots with 20 points and senior guard Kendre Smith added 16 in the win for the Patriots. Breaking out to a big lead early on, Patriots Head Coach Wystee Kerry was able to empty his bench for much of the second half and let his younger players pick up some significant in-game experience. "We were able to get our young kids into the game and they were able to gain some experience out on the court against an opponent," Kerry said. "I thought when they were out there that they did a pretty decent job. The score was not really evident of how the game itself went because they (Sicily Island) hit a bunch of 3-pointers late to cut into our lead and get back into the game." Experimenting with some things, particularly on the defensive end; Kerry said he liked what he saw at times from all of his players. "I was paying close attention to how were playing defensively in this game and how our rotations were going," Kerry said. "We tried some different rotations defensively and I wanted to see how they were out on the court like our press, etc. "I thought we had some good moments but I still know and our players know that we have plenty to work on. "Hopefully that can start this week when we return to district play. The other big thing is that we must rebound well, particularly against Neville this week. If we can do that, we have a good chance to come away with a win and that is what we are looking to do." |
