Is Brady out at LSU Okay, I was thinking that my first column was going to be local, but after what happened this past week I just cannot hold my tongue any longer.
Something has to be said and said very loud.
LSU Men's Basketball Head Coach John Brady needs to be shown the door, i.e. FIRED!!!
Before I can continue I need to put all my cards on the table to explain myself. I was a student at LSU and I was an avid follower of the men's basketball program. I was on the front row of the student section screaming my head off as the Tigers went to the Sweet 16. I loved it.
Let's just say my eyes started to open up and I started to grow up to the saga is that is John Brady.
First off, I am so tired of all of the excuses that Brady has for everything, AND I MEAN EVERYTHING that is wrong with the LSU men's basketball program.
How long did we have to hear that this program was still under scholarship restrictions and that was having a profound effect on everything? Well, it sure as heck didn't stop him from making the Sweet 16 in 2000 did it? Funny how that was the excuse they just the following season once again.
I have never seen a coach that fails to hold on, run off, whatever you want to describe when you talk about Brady and keeping players in the program. I mean we could be here all night long listing all the players that did not finish up their eligibility with the LSU program and I am not talking about the Stromile Swifts and Tyrus Thomases that left early. I am talking about the Magnum Rolles, Regis Koundjias, Shawn-son Johnsons, Ross Neltners and on and on and on of the world.
The team that you could put together of players that did not finish their basketball career at LSU would be quite impressive.
You want to know the other team that you could put together that didn't even end up at LSU that would possibly be even better? Try the Louisiana high school players that didn't come to LSU in the first place.
Where is the nation's number one player in Helen Cox's Greg Monroe this year? He's going to Georgetown. Top-ranked player in the state last season in LaceDarius Dunn? He's at Baylor and joined by the top-ranked player in the state two seasons ago in Demond "Tweety" Carter. Oh yeah, D.J. Augustin is at Texas and Dwight Lewis is at USC. Do I need to go on?
To the untrained eye it would seem as though any player that is not in Baton Rouge or in the Baton Rouge area is not on Brady's radar or at least not enough to where they head to LSU.
The new thing with Coach Excuse this year are the injuries. We're not at full strength, if we had a team at full strength, etc., etc., etc. Doesn't this sound all too familiar? I guess just replace injuries with scholarship restrictions and we are back in 1999.
When the head coach of a university has to come out earlier this week and basically beg for support for the fans to come and see and support the program, how low have you sunk?
Oh yeah, did I forget to mention the fact the LSU Athletic Director Skip Bertman was not at this press conference? Now that's a vote of confidence for your coach.
The truth of the matter is that many LSU fans, and I mean a lot, will not return to the Pete Maravich Assembly Center as long as Brady is the head coach of the program. That is a simple, but very true fact.
Now let's see what happens next because as many of you know when it comes to LSU Athletics, there is no telling what is going to happen. |
