Princess opens season with jazz duo The Princess Theatre 2008 season opens Saturday, Feb. 9 with a bang when the talented jazz music duo of husband and wife team Davis and Dow perform. Davis and Dow tackle jazz and pop standards with a daring sense of abandon. Their style is deeply rooted in the classic jazz tradition but with playfulness that keeps the music fresh and fun.
Recognized as one of the finest and most versatile singers of her generation, Julie Davis is everything from scat-singer to balladeer. She grew up listening to the music of Count Basie, Duke Ellington and Ella Fitzgerald. A confident singer with compelling stage presence, Davis possesses a wry kittenish voice with claws. Her husband, Kelly Dow, is a world-class guitarist whose primary influences are Joe Pass, Jimmy Bruno and Django Reinhardt. He blends Be-Bop, Blues, Flamenco, and Classical styles to create a strong individual sound delivered with sensitivity, power and creativity. Together they have perfected a seamless blend of vocal instrument and stringed instrument. They have toured Japan, London, New York and their CDs have won awards and been featured in national jazz magazines. Davis and Dow is the real thing and exciting to watch and hear. Princess Theatre executive director, Gene Thompson, said it should prove to be a very exciting night.
"The Princess is very fortunate to have been able to book Davis and Dow. They are a real treat for the ears and eyes," said Thompson.
