The dream of a million 'girls'

The Franklin Parish Beta Club kicked off their annual fund-raiser with a womanless beauty pageant at the Winnsboro Elementary auditorium on Saturday night. Beta sponsor Cristi Reeves and senior member Norman Elrod hosted an evening of hilarity in drag as each lovely contestant participated in several categories of the competition.

The casual wear division drew thunderous applause from the audience, but nothing compared to the laughter following the talent competition. All of the "ladies" duets, dance numbers, and over-the-top feminine improvisation, which often flowed into the audience, was a lively sight to behold. The crowd cheered as the contestants performed such numbers as, "You Make Me Feel (Like a Natural Woman)" and "Girls Just Want to Have Fun." After a few technical difficulties, 'Black Lavender' (Trey Wilson) managed to successfully perform her rendition of Beyonce's angst ballad, "Irreplaceable."

Audience members served as judges at this year's event. After the contestants had completed all three levels of the pageant, each lovely lady was sent into the crowd to collect donations for her purse. The beauty who collected the most money, won the competition.

After much anticipation, "Black Lavender" (Trey Wilson) was crowned the fairest of them all. Second place honors went to "Patricia Sartin" (Tyler Dooley) and third place went to "Bernice Jenkins" (Kederek McCarthy).

Other contestants competing for the crown were, "Resbusha" (Tyler Roberts), "Bootasia" (Sidney McMillon), "Naomi Loudly" (Cody Ronquillo), "Candy Apple" (James Duplichan), "Shananay" (Brandon Sims), "Pootytang" (Kendre Smith), "Heather, aka White Chocolate" (Heath Hunt), "Tracey Lou Freebush" (Kentray Anderson) and "Cornelia Boston" (Curnel Doyle).

This is the second year the Beta Club has held the womanless pageant for their annual fund-raiser.

"All proceeds collected will be used to fund the club's trip to Baton Rouge for Senior Convention," said club member Derek Newman.
