Saturday, Jan. 19 marks the return of The Franklin Opry to the Princess Theatre. The family oriented country music show, fashioned after The Grand Ole Opry, is presented by The Princess the third Saturday of each month. Gene Thompson, executive director of the theatre, said the show has become one of the biggest around and one of the best events The Princess has to offer.

"Gene King approached me going on three years ago with the idea and since then it has become a big success," said Thompson.

January's line will include up and coming country singer Courtney Cole from East Texas. Gene King, leader of The Gene King Band which is the house band, said Courtney is one of the most talented performers we will have ever had on the stage.

"She has secured a deal with a record company in Nashville and everyone should be hearing a lot from her in the near future," said King. Others performing on Saturday the 19th will be first place winner of the talent contest held in Oct. of 2007, Jeremy Davis, local sensation Erica Ellis and Crowville native, Donna Robinson. Regular favorites will be performing as well including Jimmie Commeaux and K-104 radio personality Carl Bamburg who emcees the show. Members of The Gene King Band are Gene King on lead guitar and vocals, Jesse Middleton on rhythm guitar and vocals, Holly Yarborough on fiddle, Nicky Ezell on steel guitar, Mike Estep on bass and Mark McClanahan on drums. Sponsors for the January event are Diane Wroten's State Farm Insurance Agency in Winnsboro and Hales' Plumbing in Rayville owned and operated by James Hales.

Admission is $10 for ages 13 and up and $3 for ages 12 and under and can be purchased the day of the show at the theatre box office. Popcorn and soft drinks are also available. The box office opens at 6:15 p.m. and the show starts and 7:00 PM.
