Folse named sports editor
Hello Franklin Parish!
My name is David Folse and I am the new sports editor at The Franklin Sun. I am excited about my new position and the sports coverage I plan to provide.
Let me take this time to tell you a little about myself.
I was born in New Orleans and was raised in Slidell. I attended Slidell High School and graduated in 1999 before heading off to Baton Rouge and LSU (by the way, I am a big-time follower of the Tigers).
I was there in 1996 when Warren Morris hit the game-winning home run to capture the 1996 National Championship in baseball and I was in the press box when the Tigers won the 2003 BCS National Championship in football.
After being a contributing writer at local campus newspapers at LSU, as well as writing at "Tiger Rag" magazine and The Advocate, I was took my first newspaper job in LaPlace at the L'Observateur where I covered eight high schools in St. John Parish.
Hurricane Katrina moved me in the fall of 2005 to Sulphur where I became the sports editor at the Southwest Daily-News.
I really enjoyed my time at the Southwest Daily-News and left a lot of good friends there. However, as I have come to learn in the newspaper business, you have to be flexible, i.e. movable, and it was my time to move on.
I am fired up about sports here and am looking forward to providing good coverage of athletics in Franklin Parish and the surrounding communities. I'll also be doing some sports writing for The Ouachita Citizen in West Monroe, sister paper to The Franklin Sun.
I am passionate about what I do and I hope that it will start to become evident to you, the readers, very, very soon.
However, I know that I cannot do this alone. I need your help. I want to cover all that I possibly can, but as a newcomer to the area, I admit that I do not know everything that is going on in sports.
That is where you come in. I welcome your pictures, ideas and stories – whatever it may be to make your sports section the best it can possibly be.
If you know of any event that is happening, feel free to let me know. Is your little league team having a game or playing in a tournament? Give me a call.
In conclusion, I am thrilled to start a new era at The Franklin Sun. It is going to be one heck of a ride and I hope that you are ready to hop aboard! |
