Results of the December election of FSA committee members for 2008 were recently announced by John E. Carroll, current Chairperson of the Farm Service Agency (FSA) Committee for Franklin Parish.

Farmer elected to the Committee in Franklin Parish was: John E. Carroll.

"FSA County Commit-tees are charged with the local administration of national farm programs which includes commodity price support loans and payments; conservation programs; incentive, indemnity and disaster payments for some commodities; and emergency programs," Carroll said.

An organizational meeting to elect the chairperson and vice-chairperson will be conducted at the first County Committee meeting in January 2008.

Carroll pointed out that last year over 928 farmers - about 25 percent of all farmers in the Parish took part in one or more of the programs administered by the FSA Committees.

The United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) prohibits discrimination in all its programs and activities on the basis of race, color, national origin, age, disability, and where applicable, sex, marital status, familial status, parental status, religion, sexual orientation, genetic information, political beliefs, reprisal, or because all or part of an individual's income is derived from any public assistance program. (Not all prohibited bases apply to all programs.) FSA Elections are open to all farmers whether owner, landlord, tenant, or share cropper. Persons with disabilities who require alternative means for communication of program information (Braille, large print, audiotape, etc.) should contact USDA's TARGET CENTER at 202-720-2600 (voice and TDD).
