Merchants hope sign lure customers downtown Merchants downtown may soon see an increase in traffic through their stores.
That's the goal of a pair of signs that are about to go up along Front Street, according to Main Street manager Kay LaFrance-Knight.
"We hope these signs will draw traffic off of Highway 15 and into the historic district," LaFrance-Knight told The Franklin Sun.
"This is just one more effort to bring attention to our historic downtown area, the amazing things our merchants have to offer, and the opportunities shoppers can find there," said LaFrance-Knight.
The signs are being built by local welder Mark Massey, who said the project is nearing completion.
When finished and installed, the pair of 14-foot-tall signs will hold space for 20 merchants each.
The project is sponsored by Winnsboro Main Street, Inc.
The first sign will be placed at the corner of Prairie and Front Streets while the second sign will find its home at the corner of Front Street and Adams Street.
Massey said he has enjoyed working on the project because of the historical value the signs offer.
"It's nice to build something you can look back on and know you've but something nice back into the community," Massey said.
"You can look back on it and tell your children and grandchildren you had a little something to do with it," Massey said.
LaFrance-Knight said she was not sure when the signs would be erected, but said residents could expect to see them "very soon." |
