Herron, Smith earn all-state honors Two Franklin Parish Patriot football players can add another accolade to their resume after the Louisiana Sports Writers Association released its Class 4A all-state team this week.
Senior Tyree Herron earned a spot on the offensive team, while Lorenzo Smith was named an honorable mention.
Herron, a two-time 2-4A all-district selection, was a standout on the Patriots massive offensive line this season. The 6-0, 315 pound hog-molly paved the way for a Franklin Parish offense that averaged over 335 yards in the 2012 season.
The senior lineman not only made the all-state mark on the field, but in the classroom as well, as Herron was named to the all-state academic team last week for his 3.9 cumulative GPA.
"For his entire career, you knew what you were going to get with Tyree," Franklin Parish coach Barry Sebren said. "He's a very intelligent player and a beacon of consistency. Technically, he could match up with anybody we played all year."
Smith followed a first team all-district honor in 2011, with another monster year this season.
The menacing linebacker led the Patriots with 83 tackles and six sacks. The senior also forced 5 fumbles and blocked a field goal, while also scoring a touchdown on a fumble recovery during the Patriots stellar 2012 campaign.
