Franklin Parish sophomore DeAndre McCarthy intercepted a Cameron Blame pass with less than half a minute left on the clock, halting a ferocious last-minute comeback effort by No. 24 Assumption Friday night at Patriot Stadium.

The Patriots, hosting their first opening-round playoff game in school history on Friday, ran out the remaining seconds to celebrate a physically-challenging 19-14 win over the Mustangs.

No. 9 Franklin Parish (9-2) will travel to Houma in round two to tangle with No. 8 Vandebilt Catholic, who easily made waste of No. 25 Huntington, 38-6, on Friday.
