DA: Moffitt could face charges

The Winnsboro woman, who authorities said last week formulated a false report of a racially charged attack, could face criminal charges for her actions, according to 5th Judicial District Attorney Mack Lancaster.

In a news conference last week, local and state law enforcement officials said forensic evidence indicated that 20-year-old Sharmeka Moffitt set herself on fire at Civitan Park then invented a story about being doused in flammable liquid by three men. She also alleged the men wrote a racial slur and the initials "KKK" on the hood of her Buick LaCrosse.
