Cougars drill Marvell, advance to semis Franklin Academy scored on every offensive possession last Friday en route to a 52-20 playoff victory over Marvell Academy (Ark.) at Cougar Field.
The win sends the Cougars to the MAIS 8-man football state semifinals for the second consecutive year.
The cold and windy weather that characterized the local weather last Friday dictated the ground-and-pound approach the Cougars took according to coach Doyle Hassell.
The FA backfield rushed for a blistering 336 yards on just 21 carries, scoring six times in the blowout win.
"The high winds made it difficult to throw the ball, so we went back to the ground game in the wet weather and it turned out good," Hassell said. "The offensive line made life a lot easier for the backs. They (offensive line) totally dominated the game."
No. 3 Franklin Academy (8-1) held a 22-12 halftime lead after scoring on its only three possessions of the first half with two rushing touchdowns by Ian Black and one courtesy of Nate Blackwell.
