Ever since the first televised debate between GOP hopeful Richard Nixon and a fresh-faced Massachusetts senator named John F. Kennedy, the bar for highest seat in the land has been raised to an all new superficial low. It's hardly about policy or political platform any more. It's the pomp and circumstance of a red, white and blue-themed beauty pageant that serves as more of a distraction than an exercise to find the best leader of our country.

If the gaunt and spindly Abraham Lincoln were to throw his top hat in the presidential ring today, he would surely be compared to Ichabod Crane and laughed off the convention hall stage. The public would be too busy wondering why he seems to over-dress for every occasion or why he won't trim that scraggly beard, to hear his vision for the country. The press would no doubt launch a full-scale investigation to expose the influences that drive his Goth-professional style.
