Students arrested in school fight
posted E-mail Story E-mail Story | Print Story Print Story
Nineteen Franklin Parish High School students were arrested Tuesday morning after a fight broke out on the campus, according to Winnsboro Police Chief Lester Thomas.

Officers were dispatched to the bus ramp located next to the gym shortly before school started Tuesday morning where the fight allegedly took place.

Six males and one female were booked as adults in the Franklin Parish Detention Center. Twelve of the students were juveniles who were arrested and released to their parents.

"We are currently trying to determine the cause of the altercation to prevent incidents like this from happening in the future," Thomas said.

According to reports, one student was transported to Franklin Medical Center with minor head injuries sustained in the fight.

Expulsion hearings will be held for the students involved in the altercation, according to Superintendent Lanny Johnson.

Thomas said no weapons were recovered, but the investigation is still ongoing.

Names of the students booked into the detention center have not been released at this time.

If you have any information, contact the WPD at 435-4307.
