Parish spared from Isaac's wrath With memories of utter destruction in the wake of 2008's Hurricane Gustav still heavy on their minds, Franklin Parish emergency officials and residents scrambled last week in a massive preparation effort as Hurricane Isaac churned in the Gulf of Mexico.
By the time Isaac made landfall in southwestern Mississippi as a category one hurricane Tuesday night. Officials from the Franklin Parish Sheriff's Office and Police Jury had dispersed thousands of sandbags to parish residents and were conducting a parishwide debris clean-up of ditches in preparation for the avalanche of rain and wind the storm was projected to bring to the area.
