A group of parish residents purchased a quarter-page advertisement in the Aug. 8 edition of The Sun calling "all citizens" to converge on the VFW hall for a matter of "homeland security." But despite that phrase being blazoned across the ad in big, bold letters, the group is not affiliated with the actual federal or state Department of Homeland Security. I wondered what this meeting was really about.

I received a call from one of our elderly readers Friday morning that prompted to me write this column. She didn't know exactly what the meeting was supposed to be about either, but she thought it was organized to address the issue of the federal government "labeling conservative Christians as terrorists." The fear in her voice said it all.
