WHS reunion planned Former Winnsboro High School graduates from 1946 through 1960 are gathering for a gala reunion on on Saturday, June 2, at the Jack Hammons Community Center in Winnsboro. Registration begins at 10:00 a.m.
What began as a gathering of former WHS football players soon expanded to include cheerleaders, pep squad members, band members and all who were a part of WHS during the 1940's and 1950's. Former coach Gene Knecht and former assistant coach, John Thompson, will be in attendance. Nearly one hundred and twenty-five people are expected to attend the event.
Festivities will begin with a welcome and recognition of the 1946 football team – the first post WWII team. A short memorial service will honor deceased football players. The memorial service will be followed by a time of sharing memories of WHS football games, pep rallies, band trips and other activities centered around high school days.
The highlight of the event will be the viewing of a special video presentation featuring WHS football teams and players, bands, pep squads and cheerleaders and casual student scenes. Also numerous photos of Winnsboro during the 1940's and 1950's will be on display. The video will take guests on a nostalgic journey back to their younger days.
After lunch, those attending will be treated to a performance by The Jazzers, a 1940's big band playing all the favorite songs of the era. Guests can dance, listen or just spend time visiting with other classmates.
All are invited to attend. The cost of the event is $35 per person. For more information, please contact Billy Boutwell at 355-0777, or Johnny Guice 282-6853. |
