Johns brothers place at Karate Junior Olympics Students from the local shotokan karate club – Bob Allen Dojo – traveled back from Las Vegas last week with more medals for their martial arts resumes. But maybe more importantly, brothers Grant and Myles Johns bring back with memories they will carry with them forever.
The Johns brothers participated in the USA Karate Junior Olympics and USA Open competition in Las Vegas April 5-8. The event took place at Caesar's Palace and had over 1,000 competitors from 50 different countries.
The Junior Olympics are divided into two events in three age groups.
The "kumite" competition is a point-fighting event where participants score with punches and kicks to the head and body. The "kata" competition is based on a series of detailed movements that the students perform.
