What happens to a child when he leaves school? Far too often his direction is tied up in how he perceives himself and his ability to succeed in the world.

For Frederick Jones, a 1978 Winnsboro High School graduate, his inspiration came from his high school biology teacher, Mabel Lawrence Thomas.

"She turned my life around," Jones admits, "I wouldn't be where I am today if it were not for her. She opened my eyes to my possibilities."

Many of his former classmates agree and today Mrs. Thomas numbers attorneys, doctors, nurses, teachers, police chiefs, ministers, business owners, and a mayor among her success stories.
