Editor's note: The following write up is one in a series of stories being released by The Franklin Sun over the next month highlighting some of former LSU coach Dale Brown's biggest wins. The games discussed are what Brown communicated to The Sun as his "fondest wins as a coach at LSU." May 4 has been declared "Dale Brown Day" in Winnsboro, as Brown will visit the city and speak at Family Christian Community School that evening.

When Dale Brown arrived in Baton Rouge to take over the LSU hoops program in 1972, many basketball fans in the state of Louisiana had never heard of the young, spirited North Dakotan that had been chosen to replace longtime Tiger coach Press Maravich.

After spending one season as an assistant coach at Washington State University, Brown came to LSU after in hopes of making basketball important in Tiger country – a dream most thought was unattainable at that time.
