Lady Patriots ready for district slate

The Franklin Parish Lady Patriots knew they would be facing some stout competition when they traveled to ULM last weekend for the Lady Lion Classic. With one game cancelled due to weather, Franklin Parish (6-8) had the daunting task of taming 5A programs Ouachita and West Monroe.

Although the Lady Patriots lost both contests, coach Richie Kelly said he likes the direction his team is heading in as district play begins this week.

"We have a good softball team, but we are still learning to make plays and get key hits in important parts of the game," Kelly said. "One missed pop fly or one miss grounder can completely doom you. The same can be said for leaving runners on base. Those things hurt you when you're up against great competition. We're better than what we've been showing simply put."
