Registration begins for 5k Area runners from all across North Louisiana are currently prepping for the 3.1 mile race through scenic downtown Winnsboro next month.
The Geauxfit Catfish Classic 5K – set for an 8:30 a.m. start on Saturday, April 7 – will start and end at the Old Post Office Museum.
Organizers of the 5K, which returned to Winnsboro last year after nearly a decade, hope to build on the success of last year's event where over 100 runners participated.
The race will be conducted by the Ouachita Valley Road Runners of Monroe.
Medals will be awarded for the top three men and women's times in 5-year age groups and cash prizes will be presented to overall male and female winners, and overall male and female master winners (45 +). There will also be a drawing for cash door prizes which anyone who enters the race can win.
Along with the usual post-race refreshments of fruit and cookies, fresh fried catfish will be provided.
"We will have a lot of good runners on hand this year to compete, as well as a lot of recreational runners," said Rod Elrod, an organizer and participant of the event. "We had great feedback after last year and hope to keep building on its popularity."
The money generated by the race will be used to fund a scholarship at the Winnsboro-Franklin Chamber of Commerce Academic Achievement Banquet.
Entry forms are available at GeauxFit Fitness Center, Winnsboro Sports and local banks. Runners can also register online by searching for "GeauxFit Catfish Classic" at www.active.com. |
