Middleton tweaks offseason routine

After watching his team lose the last nine games of the regular season last year, Franklin Parish coach Lynn Middleton knew it was time for a different approach.

The Patriots, who compete in one of the strongest baseball districts in class 4A, needed a new method of how to prepare for the upcoming season.

Middleton decided he wanted the players that put on the Franklin Parish uniform this season to be of a different mindset. From now on to don the blue and red, each player was going to have to "earn it."

Last summer, Middleton instituted a mandatory workout policy that played a part in whittling down roster, but at the same time drastically improved the conditioning of the those players that showed they wanted to put forth the effort to be a part of program.

"There has to be a commitment and a desire to get better," Middleton said. "If you want to be a part of this team, you have to prove it. The weight room is where you prove it."
