Battle-tested Cougars ready for South State

The Franklin Academy Cougars will travel to Haynesville on Wednesday to begin their quest for a state title. The Cougars are paired against Wilkinson County Christian Academy in the first round of the MAIS South State (A) Tournament at Claiborne Academy.

If the Cougars can muster a win against WCCA, they will be eligible for the MAIS Class A State Tournament. Tip-off is scheduled for 5:15 p.m. on Wednesday.

Franklin Academy (16-9, 7-5) heads into postseason play after finishing fourth in district 7A of the Mississippi Association of Independent Schools. The Cougars back-to-back district losses against CENLA Academy and Glenbrook School last week moved Claiborne Academy into the number three spot.

The Cougars squandered fourth period leads in both district losses last week – a trend coach Paul Work knows has to cease going into South State.
