Local Marine assists after devastating flood
The duties of a United States Marine in the eyes of many common citizens may sometimes be seen as limited strictly to the soldier's battlefield attributes. One local man's humanitarian assignment last October may help in shedding more light on the aiding and assisting efforts of the corps when devastation strikes.
While stationed in Okinawa, Japan in October of 2011, Master Sgt. David W. Parks and eight other Marines were placed on a Marine Corps Humanitarian Assistance Survey Team and sent into the flood-stricken region of northern Thailand.
