Cougars bounce back

The Franklin Academy Cougars ended their three-game road swing on a positive note last Thursday, dispersing of Briarfield, 61-49, in Lake Providence.

Curt McGuffie led the way offensively for the Cougars, netting 20 points in the winning effort.

Senior John Ross Newman added 14 points and was Franklin's defensive staple in the paint, forcing Briarfield to take its offensive attack to the perimeter. Despite Briarfield connecting for ten three-pointers, the Cougars still kept a comfortable cushion throughout the contest – never holding less than a double-digit lead.

"We really didn't shoot the ball particularly well, but we fought hard on both ends of the court," Franklin Academy coach Paul Work said. "You have to give credit to Briarfield. They shot the lights with those three pointers. It's good to finish those three straight road games with a win."
