Youthful Patriots learning on the fly
With the first month of the regular season in the rear-view mirror, Franklin Parish coach Wystee Kerry has seen an improvement in his youthful squad.
Claiming a 4-7 record on the year, the Patriots have endured a brutal non-district schedule that has seen them matched with hoops perennial powerhouses such as Richwood, Rayville and Madison. Kerry hopes the tough tests the Patriots have faced early will prepare them for district play.
The Patriots lost back-to-back heartbreakers last week, falling to Richwood 79-72 on Tuesday before losing 55-52 to Bastrop on Thursday.
"Early on we have been hindered by a very young backcourt," Kerry said of his squad. "But there have been improvements along the way. I've always liked to play a tough non-district schedule to get our team ready. I know we need all the game experience that we can get before the district games come around."
