Winnsboro man dies after pedestrian crash A Winnsboro man died Thursday night after being struck by a vehicle in Franklin Parish.
Shortly after 9:45 p.m., deputies with the Franklin Parish Sheriff's Department responded to a pedestrian crash on La. Hwy. 562, 5.9 miles east of La. Hwy. 15 outside of Gilbert. Troop F of Louisiana State Police was dispatched to the scene immediately after FPSO's arrival.
According to Trooper Mark Dennis, a 2003 Toyota car was traveling west on Hwy. 562 when it struck a pedestrian that was lying in the road. The pedestrian, identified as 22-year-old Justin Alford of Winnsboro, was pronounced dead at the scene by the Franklin Parish Coroner's Office.
Troopers suspect that Alford was impaired at the time of the incident. The investigation is still ongoing.
The report revealed that the driver was unable to avoid hitting the pedestrian due to the rural location of the accident that had no street lights.
Troop F identified the driver of the Toyota as 38-year-old Tabitha Odom of Wisner. Odom was not injured and no citations were issued. |
