OCS dashes Mangham's championship hopes

The top seeded Ouachita Christian Eagles' performance personified "grown man football" in their last hurdle to the state finals, overwhelming the Mangham Dragons 54-0 last Friday.

In what was to be a monumental clash of undefeated 1A prep powerhouses, would turn out to be a one-sided showcase in front of the record crowd at Labrano Field in Mangham.

The victory sends OCS (14-0) back to the Superdome to square off with No. 6 West St. John, which topped No. 2 Vermillion Catholic, 54-41, to reach the championship game. The win gives the Eagles a shot at redemption on Friday in New Orleans after losing to White Castle in the finals last season.

"This group of seniors have been playing together since middle school and our goal the whole time has been to go to the state championships and win it," senior OCS standout Mark Laird said. "What happened last year (against White Castle) left a real nasty taste in everyone's mouth and it's been a driving force for us all season."
