Franklin Parish residents are working to keep three area post offices open that the U.S. Postal Service is considering closing to offset declining revenues.

Post offices in Chase, Jigger and Fort Necessity could be on the chopping block, officials say, in a national cost-cutting effort that could see hundreds of post offices closed nationwide.

A public hearing was held on Tuesday at the LSU AgCenter's Sweet Potato Research Station in Chase so residents could express their concerns over the prospect of losing post offices that many say are the hub of business and interaction in the rural villages.
