Workers in Franklin Parish continue to rank among the lowest paid in Louisiana, according to a recent report from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics.

With an average wage of $485 per-week, laborers in Franklin Parish were the second lowest paid in the state during the first quarter of 2011,the Bureau reports.

Those in neighboring Madison Parish made slightly less—$484 per week. The national weekly wage average is $935.

Service industries make up the largest employment sector in Franklin Parish, with 306 businesses employing an average of 2,898 workers in the first quarter.

Service industries include business that make money by providing goods and services through businesses as diverse as gas stations, clothing stores and restaurants to banks, professional offices, utility companies and hospitals.
